Art Therapy for veterans

It is an opportunity to express emotions that are difficult to put into words. Through art, the military finds a way to regain a sense of control over the events they have experienced.

Creativity is the language trauma speaks

Art therapy for veterans

Soldiers who have been wounded and are in hospital face not only physical pain but also deep psychological trauma. The loss of health, the fear they have experienced, and the feeling of helplessness leave their mark on the psyche. At this time, art therapy becomes not just a form of leisure but a tool for healing.

Through creativity, soldiers can express what is difficult to convey in words. This process helps to reduce internal tension, find a way to work through difficult emotions, and feel control over one’s own life. Art therapy provides an opportunity to distract from pain and focus on creating something new and positive.

Hello,
My name is Olga Gerasymenko, I am a clinical psychologist and art therapist. I run my own therapy practice and also work as a volunteer for the NGO “War Psychotrauma Institute” with soldiers undergoing treatment in a psychiatric hospital.

Hospital wards are often quiet, so art therapy becomes a special bridge that brings people together. We draw, create collages, work with clay, and try other creative methods. Veterans find support in each other by sharing ideas and emotions.
